Road to nowhere

As we said, we had no plans of where we were heading to today - all we knew was that we were going to Shieldaig for Thursday night. So it was quite nice to just wake up and see what happened.

We woke up to a dry morning, so quickly threw some clothes on to get the dogs out (that’s not a euphemism) and onto the beach before the pish weather set in. Plus we needed to do a few housekeeping jobs such as harvesting the brown trout, empty the grey water tanks and fill up the fresh water tank - all so much easier when it is not raining. Good job we took the opportunity when we did, no sooner as we’d finished and got the kettle on, the weather turned.

After the usual packing up and getting the van ready to drive, we headed in the direction of Ullapool. Another beautiful drive through the mountains and along the coast. Certainly not getting tired of the views as we travel through Scotland! When we arrived in Ullapool, which is a sprawling metropolis by Highlands standards, we thought we’d take some time to explore the town and grab a hot drink. So we found a pub…and had a coffee and hot chocolate…Tubbs was driving after all! It’s the small things eh? What a treat, because for the last week we have not found any cafes open, only take-away or outside seating. We had a lovely mooch around a few of the quaint shops then found a Tesco to stock up for the next few days. This is all important stuff when living in a van and touring Scotland as you never know when you will next find a shop for the all important beer, wine and crisps 😋

On our drive into Ullapool I noticed a camp site right on the edge of the Loch overlooking the Isle of Martin, so we headed back there for the night - ideal photo opportunity too seeing as we had found an island named after Tubbs 😝 It was a lovely small site and we pitched only metres from the waters edge.

We have not had great signal recently especially when driving through the mountains so when we do get a signal we try catch up on news and messages etc. The signal at this site wasn’t too bad so Tubbs did some research on where we would be heading next week - taking into consideration what is happening with COVID in the UK at the moment.

Thursday morning was cold but dry and we headed off to Shieldaig …

Lots of love T&TA 🥰
