Brora

Woke up to a dry sunny day - hoorah! We are in need of some warmth on our faces and a break from soggy dogs in a confined space (quite challenging which I’m sure you can imagine).

The Brora camp site we are staying on has it’s own private access gate on to a golf course that leads straight onto the beach. So we took advantage of the lovely sunny day to get the pups out and about and to have a run around.

Keeping eyes open for any golfers about to tee off (there were a fair few but we timed it well), we headed across to explore. As the area is common land there were numerous sheep and cows grazing and wondering freely - first challenge was to stop Wicket eating their poop (blasted dog will eat anything 😆). Next challenge was to get past Harry the Highland Cow in the middle of our path, but that’s ok we found an alternative route as with those horns we thought it best not to upset her. Now you may not know this but Tubbs has a fascination with cows. Consequently I was then left holding both dog leads (for what felt like for ever) while he took numerous photos! I must admit though the highland cow is quite an amazing looking creature with their long shaggy caramel coloured coat and long horns.

Once we eventually got to the beach the pups were so excited they chased each other up and down like absolute loons for about 20 minutes. We were happy to see this as we knew that our next stop would not let dogs in so they’d be ready for an afternoon nap whilst we mooched around Dunrobin Castle.

So, Dunrobin Castle is the most northerly of Scotland’s great houses and the largest in the Northern Highlands with 189 rooms. It is also one of Britain’s oldest continuously inhabited houses dating back to the early 1300s, home of the Earls and Dukes of Sutherland. It is right on the coast overlooking the Moray Firth. The grounds were extensive and most impressive, as well as immaculately kept - there was one gardener edging the lawn with hand shears!! I would highly recommend a visit if you ever find yourself in this area.

On the way back to the camp site we noticed a Chinese take-away was open and seeing as we hadn’t had anything like this since being in the UK we took a photo of their number to see if we could order from them later. Once back at our pitch we decided to do some laundry as many of the sites we have stayed at due to Covid restrictions have not had their facilities available. As we were now starting to turn things inside out we thought we had better do a load 😜. So, whilst waiting for the machines to do their thing, we gave the Red Dragon a call, and result! they were taking orders. What a treat that was, we ordered so much food it then fed us the next day for lunch 😋

Leaving Brora tomorrow to continue on the next part of the NC500.

Stay safe peeps!

Lots of love T&TA ❤️🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿
